Q: Mel! I have love handles! Any chance you will think about posting some exercises targeting this problem area? I’m doing a lot of cardio and working other problem areas… but this one is giving me the hardest time!! I don’t want a muffin top!!
A: Our fitness coaches agree that there is no way to spot target weight loss, but improving your diet and taking a new approach to cardio can do the trick!
Fitness coach Jared says:
Nobody loves love handles but don’t stress its not the end of the world. The hard truth is you can’t spot reduce fat, and unfortunately we are all different and hold it in different places on our bodies. The good news is, simple fixes can help rid of our problem areas. First off a lot of cardio is not always the answer. Diet is. So what can you do without starving yourself of what you love? There are a few simple changes that can make a world of difference. First, drink a glass of cold water when you wake up. Studies tell us that this can boost the metabolism immediately. Next, cut out any carbs after about 5 or 6 pm. What people don’t always understand is that carbs are just used as energy. That being the case if you are eating carbs during dinner but spend the rest of the night sitting around with the family and not exercising your body will hold onto everything it can. Remember our bodies are focused on surviving not on looking good. Lastly (and this one is huge), I recommend trying High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) every other day with full body resistance exercise the days between. Personally I have found 2 minutes of jogging followed by 1 minute of sprinting to be ideal. Also do this on a treadmill. I know it may sound boring but its only 15 minutes total and the treadmill will force you to run at a certain speed whereas doing it outside you will have a natural tendency to slow yourself down when tired. I recently had a client of mine do this type of exercise and she lost 35 pounds in just 3 months! Hope this helps! Also just so you know you aren’t alone I had this same struggle a few years back but once I incorporated intervals into my schedule it only took 3 weeks before my first 6 pack and now I do some modeling! Hope to hear about your great results soon and remember you can’t outwork a bad diet!
